Buyers and bloggers faked delivery | 2007-09-07 17:48 - Computer Sweden:
2CO backs off: "No computers on the way"
By Daniel Goldberg |
The events surrounding the Medison $150 computer becomes even more bizarre. Now 2Checkout retracts the statement that the first computers have been delivered. The customers that had confirmed delivery are said to have been eager customers and bloggers who have tried to bluff their way to more information about Medision.
Earlier this afternoon american 2Checkout, the company that handles the payments for Medisons much discussed $150 computer, that the first computers had been delivered to customers.
The information contradicted posts on several internet forums where customers who have placed an order are complaing about deliveries that failed to be. None of the IDG group magazines, who are in contact with a large number of Medison customers, have been able to confirm that any computers have been delivered.
But now 2checkout retracts the statement. Several persons have contacted 2Checkout and claimed to have received their Medison computers. But according to Geno Arce, business development responsible at 2Checkout, they are bluffers.
– The discussions on the net have been enormously intense regarding this. We have been contacted by a number of persons who claims to have received their computers. We're talking about bloggers and waiting customers who have tried to bluff their way to more information. People have been very "hot under the collar", says Geno Arce to Computer Sweden.
He confirms at the same time that Medison's $150 computer exists.
– Valdi [Ivancic, CEO of Medison] have been here with a laptop. We have seen a working product and discussed their business model. I can confirm that the computer exists, he says.
The reason for not delivering the computers yet have to do with Medisons difficulties finding distributors, according to Geno Arce.
– I know that discussions about finding a distributor are on-going but it hasn't been easy. I don't think they expected computer to be so popular, he says.
More than 7000 people have ordered a Medison computer from 2checkout.com, according to Geno Arce.
Medison have now been given a deadline by 2Checkout. Exactly how long the company has to deliver Geno does not want to say, but if the computers doesn't show up before the deadline all customers will have their money back. The same for those who have received an order confirmation already.
– All money is still with us. It is not until customers have confirmed that the computers have been delivered we release any funds to Medison, says Geno Arce.
