Company accused of fraud makes excuses

Customers were promised laptop computers for $150. But deliveres have failed to happend and accusations of fraud are coming thick and fast.

Now the Medison company's CEO says the computers are finally on their way.

- My best guess is that they are coming in a few weeks, says Valdi Ivancic to TT.

He and his company have under the summer received lots of attention, mostly in the computer press and the blogosphere.

FIrst it was the very promise of an extremely cheap "computer for the people" that made headlines. But after a while, since Medison had delayed the promised deliveries and exposed using incorrect and misleading information, the amazed curiosity turned into angry criticism.

Himself, Ivancic perseveres: Medison is a serious company that been the victim of "logistic issues" that have made the computers yet to be reach the customers.

TT: What is the problem specifically?

- Partly it is transportation. Partly is has to do with the large demand that has been, says Ivancic and suggests that the production capacity is insufficient.

Medison claims that since the company published their offer this spring close to 300,000 computers have been ordered from customers around the world. How many Swedish customers the company has Ivancic can't say.

- But it is many thousand, he says.

According to Ivancic a large number of computers have already been manufactured, mostly in Asia. But where they physically are today he doesn't want to say.

- They are being manufactured, assemblied and will be shipped from different locations.

He says that all partners (Medison does not want to name these) now has understood the seriousness and are working to delivery as soon as possible.

In fact Medison, according to Ivancic, would shortly be able to deliver computers to a smaller number of customers. But he says this would only lead to new speculations of bluff, claims that the company will ship a small number of computers, take the money and run. Therefore Medison are waiting until a larger shipment can be made.

- Then we can silence both the critics and the doubters, and prove we are serious.

Asked why the customers are to believe Medison this time Ivancic paints a picture of an almost idealistic  organisation:

- We are doing this to be able to offer the large mass a work tool that everybody has a right to. It is simply a democratic question.

- Had it been important to get money we would have been doing something else.

The 37 year old Valdi Ivancic has a long row of company closures behind him, among other things a bankrupcty in the company Medison Data in 2003. The only currently active company with ties to Ivancic that is registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office is Medison Consulting, that he is running as a Sole Trader.
